CBS’ hit legal drama Matlock has been rocked by controversy after reports surfaced that actor David Del Rio was fired from the series following sexual assault allegations involving his co-star Leah Lewis.

Shortly after the news broke, Leah Lewis, 28, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with her followers.
“Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, thanking fans for their messages of support.

CBS Confirms Del Rio’s Exit
According to reports from Deadline and The Post, David Del Rio, 38, was removed from the show on October 2, following an alleged incident that reportedly took place on September 26. CBS has confirmed Del Rio’s departure but declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation.
Insiders say that the actor was escorted off the lot immediately after the internal probe began. His character, Billy Martínez — a young associate at the fictional Jacobson Moore law firm — will be written out of future episodes. However, scenes already filmed before his firing will still air.

Despite the controversy, Matlock — starring Kathy Bates in the lead role — continues filming its second season as planned. The series will take a short, pre-scheduled production break later in October and November.
Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman had previously teased that Del Rio’s character would play a larger role in the new season, highlighting his growing on-screen connection with Lewis’ character.
“I think of this show as a story about friendships that can sometimes be as powerful as romance,” Urman told Entertainment Weekly before the allegations surfaced.
